BIG NEWS: Moms for Liberty has officially LOST its majority on the Sarasota County School Board.
The conservative bloc, which was built with help from Ron DeSantis and became a major front in Florida’s education culture wars, was dismantled by voters this week. Former teachers Megan Tennimon and Beth Mayberry both won their races outright, defeating Republican-backed candidates. Meanwhile, Teresa DeWitt, a former vice chair of the local Moms for Liberty chapter, finished third in the race for the seat being vacated by Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler and failed to advance. The result is especially notable in heavily Republican Sarasota County, where the school board had become a showcase for the DeSantis-aligned push to reshape public education around conservative culture-war priorities. Now, voters have broken up that majority and handed Moms for Liberty a major defeat in its own backyard
